Hi everyone,
Please enjoy this week’s 4 points!
1) Perception
Perception is not objective or fixed—it’s influenced by our physical state and potential for action.
What the hell am I talking about? Stay with me.
In a seminal study by Proffitt and colleagues (1995), they found that when individuals estimated the steepness of a hill, they perceived it as steeper when they were wearing a heavy backpack.
Why does this matter? When the body anticipates that climbing the hill will be more difficult, the brain “sees” it as steeper.
Therefore, the way we see the world isn’t solely ‘in our head’, but is also grounded in the body’s interaction with the world.
Our physical capacity is shaping how we see the world.
Our perception of obstacles, space, and distances changes depending on how capable we feel at the time.

2) Killing your motivation
The fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. It’s called ego involvement. When failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. Not because you don’t care, but because you care too much.

3) A few ideas on coaching
Much like raising kids and throwing a great party, coaching is not rocket science. It is much, much harder!
Change the conception of a coach from an instructor (I have the correct solution and I am here to give it to you) to that of a designer or a guide. An effective coach should attempt to design practice environments that foster exploration and promote self-organisation rather than prescribing a solution to an athlete.

4) Quote of the week
